Acres to Hectares: Formula, Chart and What the Sizes Look Like

Land is measured in hectares nearly everywhere and in acres across the US, UK farming and Commonwealth property markets.

A hectare is exactly 10,000 m² — a 100 m by 100 m square. An acre is 4,046.86 m², historically the area one ox team could plough in a day.

Getting a feel for it A full-size football pitch is roughly 0.7 ha, or 1.76 acres. A hectare is therefore about 1.4 pitches. An acre is a rectangle roughly 64 m by 64 m.
Other land units you may hit A rood is a quarter-acre. A square perch is 25.29 m². In India, a bigha varies by state between roughly 0.06 and 0.4 ha — always ask locally which definition applies before converting.
